Legal notice charges in India.
One of the first questions people ask is simple: how much does it cost to send a legal notice? The honest answer is that it depends on the type of dispute, the complexity of the facts, and the seniority of the advocate. Below are our indicative starting fees so you know where you stand before you commit. Your exact quote is confirmed in under two hours, with no hidden charges.
Standard notice, from ₹2,999
Best for money recovery, unpaid salary, consumer complaints, and cheque bounce.
Commercial notice, from ₹3,499
Best for contract breach, property and tenancy, and employment disputes.
Complex or specialist notice, from ₹3,999
Best for IP infringement, defamation, and multi-party or cross-border matters.
Every fee above is a flat fee that includes drafting by a Bar Council-enrolled advocate, unlimited revisions until you approve, dispatch via Registered or Speed Post with a tracking ID, a PDF copy of the signed notice, and WhatsApp and email support during the response period. There is no separate charge for postage or revisions.
What determines the cost of a legal notice?
Type of dispute. A straightforward cheque-bounce notice under Section 138 follows a settled format. A complex property or defamation matter needs more research and drafting time, which raises the cost.
Applicable law. Notices that draw on several statutes at once, for example the Consumer Protection Act together with contract and state tenancy law, take longer to draft correctly.
Advocate seniority and city. In the traditional offline market, a senior advocate in Mumbai or Delhi may charge far more than a junior advocate in a smaller city for the identical notice.
Urgency. Many lawyers charge a premium for urgent drafting. Our standard fee already includes drafting within 24 to 48 hours.
Legal notice fees vs charges, what is the difference?
In Indian legal practice, legal notice fees usually means the advocate’s professional fee for drafting, the charge for the lawyer’s time. Legal notice charges is the broader term covering the total cost: the advocate’s fee plus dispatch costs such as Speed Post and acknowledgement. With My Legal Pal, both are bundled into one flat fee, so there is no separate line item for postage or drafting. In the traditional offline market, drafting fees generally range from ₹3,000 to ₹10,000, and can go higher for senior advocates or complex matters, with dispatch billed separately.
