    All Madhya Pradesh

Indore trades across the Malwa belt, and so do its disputes.

Indore is the commercial centre of Madhya Pradesh. Grain, oilseed and food traders, manufacturers in the Pithampur and Sanwer Road industrial areas, and the IT firms of the Super Corridor sell to buyers in Dewas, Ujjain, Ratlam, Bhopal and other states. Most of those sales run on credit, and many payment disputes start with a buyer in another town. A notice written for an Indore dispute has to answer two questions early: where does the other party carry on business, and which court can you reach?

This page answers them for Indore. If you are new to the document, what is a legal notice explains it. The service and fees are on send legal notice online.

Where the other party is decides where you can sue.

Five situations an Indore seller meets.

    Both parties in Indore

The civil court at Indore hears the claim. Claims between businesses of commercial value go to the commercial court, with mediation first; see pre-suit mediation before a commercial suit.

The other party in Pithampur, Dewas or Ujjain

A suit can be filed where the defendant lives or carries on business, or where the cause of action arose wholly or in part (Section 20 of the Code of Civil Procedure). If the order was taken or the goods were delivered in Indore, part of the cause of action arose here, and Indore may be open to you. We read the contract’s jurisdiction clause first, because it often settles the question.

The other party in another state

Speed Post reaches any address in India. The court you can use follows the same rule, plus any jurisdiction clause. If the clause names another city, the notice is written with that in mind.

    Appeals and writs

The Indore Bench of the Madhya Pradesh High Court hears matters from the Malwa and Nimar districts, including Indore, Ujjain, Dewas, Dhar and Ratlam. The principal seat is at Jabalpur.

    A bounced cheque

The complaint goes to the court where the payee’s bank branch sits, so an Indore account means an Indore case. The steps are on our cheque bounce legal notice page.

Supplier payments: check your Udyam registration first.

Many Indore sellers are registered micro or small enterprises. If your Udyam registration was in place when the sale was made, late payment by the buyer can be pursued through the MSME route, which has its own deadlines and interest. The mechanics are in our guide to the MSME delayed payment legal notice. For any other unpaid invoice, see legal notice for non-payment of dues.

What is specific to Indore: Pithampur and Sanwer Road suppliers often sell to large buyers outside the state. We check the registration date, the buyer’s location and the jurisdiction clause together before choosing the route, because the three together decide whether the MSME route or an ordinary suit fits.

Papers that carry an Indore trade dispute.

Collect these before you write to the buyer.

    The delivery trail

A delivery challan, the transporter’s lorry receipt and the buyer’s signed or stamped receipt prove the goods arrived. These carry more weight than an invoice alone.

    The account

The ledger, any balance confirmation the buyer signed, and part payments. A part payment is evidence the debt exists.

    The buyer’s own words

Emails and WhatsApp messages that promise payment or ask for more time. Keep the originals.

    The contract terms

Purchase orders, rate lists, and any clause on interest, jurisdiction or arbitration.

Legal notice in Indore: questions we are asked

Can I sue in Indore if the buyer is in another town?
Possibly. A suit can be filed where the buyer carries on business or where the cause of action arose in whole or in part. If the order was placed with you in Indore, or the goods were delivered here, Indore may qualify. A jurisdiction clause in the contract can settle the question either way.
Does a legal notice stop the limitation period?
No. What restarts it is a signed written acknowledgment of the debt by the buyer, so a signed balance confirmation is worth asking for. Limitation is covered in our legal notice for non-payment of dues page.
Can one notice go to the company and its directors?
The notice goes to the company at its registered office. It can also go to people who are personally liable, such as the partners of a firm, a proprietor, or a director who signed a personal undertaking. We decide the recipients after reading your papers.
How long should the notice give the buyer to pay?
Fifteen days is common, and seven for a simple, undisputed invoice. The notice states a calendar date, not just a number of days, so there is no argument about when the time ran out.
Can you serve the notice at a godown or shop in another district?
Yes. We send it to the registered office, the place of business and the proprietor or director’s address, with tracking for each.
How much does a legal notice cost in Indore?
From ₹2,999 for a standard notice, ₹3,499 for commercial matters and ₹3,999 for specialist ones, with revisions and Speed Post dispatch included.
